James W. Beckum, 83, started the Beckum-Stapleton Little League in 1964 with 60 kids, and now has more than 300 kids enrolled in the Milwaukee inner city baseball program.
In 2013, Milwaukee County Parks announced a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly named James W. Beckum Park at 911 W. Brown Street. The honor was in celebration of Mr. Beckum’s hard work and dedication to the community; as well as the donations and funding put in place by local, statewide and national organizations. Mr. Beckum started the Beckum-Stapleton Little League back in 1964 and has been a Coach, Mentor, Father and Role model to countless children.
Jim Brey – President
Jim started as a team parent in 1984 with the Majors Stapleton Brewers. In 1986 Jim coached the Brewers with Manager Rufus Towns. In 1988 Jim coached Senior League Yankees with manager Hugh Armstrong. Jim took over as Yankee manager in 1990. Jim joined the board as Vice President of Senior League in 1991. Jim served as president from 1994 to 2005. Jim became an umpire in 2006 and returned to the board in 2015. Jim is trying to support Mr. Beckum’s idea of children playing and developing through baseball.
